Abstract

This article presents a set of studies performed on AA7075-WS2 particulate metal matrix composites prepared by adding 5%wt. of tungsten disulphide (WS2) in aluminium alloy and machined with abrasive aqua jet with garnet abrasives of 80 mesh size. The aluminium composite is fabricated through stir casting technique. The objective of this article is to determine the link between three key process independent variables: traverse speed, abrasive mass flow rate and stand-off distance and pressure level to obtain the average surface roughness and kerf angle. The response surface methodology technique was used to perform the experimental interpretations. The optical microscope reveals uniform distribution of WS2 particles over the matrix material. The experimental results revealed than an increase in pressure has reduced the surface roughness and kerf taper angle.
