Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate and optimise the design parameters of worm gears across a range of industrial contexts by the approach of the grey Taguchi method. A multi-objective analysis is performed to evaluate the essential design parameters associated with force component outputs, including the tangential component, axial component, radial component and resultant force. The use of L32 orthogonal array is employed to examine the impact of various parameters, including input motor speed, coefficient of friction and optimal gearbox ratios, on the performance of worm gears. The analysis of results is conducted utilising the grey relational grade in order to determine the force components that exhibit the highest level of effectiveness. Additionally, the efficacy of the grey Taguchi technique in improving the performance characteristics of worm gears, such as load capacity and appropriate assembly, is evaluated. The research demonstrates that the grey Taguchi approach has the potential to effectively optimise the design of various mechanical components.
