Effect of Boost Pressure and Compression Ratio on the Performance and Emission Characteristics of Diethyl Ether Fuelled Engine
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research deals with enhancing the boost up pressure on the performance and emission traits of a variable compression ratio (VCR) engine powered by diethyl ether (DEE) blended waste plastic oil (WPO). Dissimilar concentrations of DEE combined WPO (P90DEE10), WPO (P100) and diesel are employed for carrying out the performance characteristics for naturally aspirated (NA) and boost pressure (BP) at compression ratio (CR) 17 and 18. Brake thermal efficiency (BTE), brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC), in-cylinder pressure, net heat release rate and emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), oxides of nitrogen (NOX) were investigated thoroughly. NA engine at CR 17 has yielded the lowest BTE values in comparison to the BP engine with CR 18. CO and NOx emissions of P90DEE10 are lower than diesel by 58.53% under BP at CR 18 and 14.28% under NA at CR 17 correspondingly. Nevertheless, the HC emissions are found to be vaguely elevated for P90DEE10 by 0.1%. From this study, it is established that BP improves the performance and emission characteristics of P90DEE10 at CR 18 on par with diesel under NA at CR 17.
