Evaluation of Physical Properties and Wear Performance of Brassica napus Oil Blended Bio-Lubricants
Main Article Content
Abstract
The replacement of synthetic oil lubricants with vegetable oil-based bio-lubricants would minimise the greenhouse emissions. In this work, Brassica napus oil (BO) were introduced in varying blends of 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% with the standard mineral oil based lubricant, to explore bio-lubricant feasibility. The kinematic viscosity, flash point, carbon residue, ash content and moisture content by the BO blended lubricants were compared with standard lube oil. The wear test results conclude a 10% blend of BO to the standard lubricant is sufficient for maximising the lubricating properties with significantly reduced wear.
