Impact of Graphene Nanoparticles Fillers Addition on Flexural Behavior of Single Lap Bonded Joints

Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate the flexural strength of Single Lap Joints (SLJs) produced by using carbon and glass fibres as adherend, while reinforcing the adhesive with Graphene. The adhesive was reinforced with Graphene nanoparticles (GNP) filler at different concentrations by wt. as 0%, 0.25% and 0.5%. SLJs were prepared using 12.5mm and 25mm bond lengths. Then, SLJs were subjected to a series of three-point bending tests. The incorporation of GNP into the adhesive employed for the fabrication of SLJs has yielded a significant improvement in the flexural strength of said joints, irrespective of the exact weight proportion of GNP. The greatest flexural strength was observed at a concentration of 0.5% wt. of GNP for both carbon and glass adherend composites.
