Effect of Surface Ignition on Injection Timing of Ethanol DI Diesel Engine
Main Article Content
Abstract
In energy utilisation from renewable sources plays a vital role to meet the demands of the clean environment. In the present investigation, experimental work has been carried out on the effective use of sole ethanol as an alternative fuel in a single-cylinder, water-cooled, direct injection CI engine. In addition, modified engines such as the Low Heat Rejection (LHR) engine with different injection timings improve performance and emission characteristics. It is concluded that sole ethanol as a fuel with a glow plug shows a reduction in exhaust emissions with a reduced efficiency compared to conventional CI diesel engines. However, it has been observed that there is a slight increase in thermal efficiency of the engine with retarded injection timing.
