Abstract

The evolution of electric mobility is a promising strategy for decarbonizing the automotive sector. India is one of the countries that support having at least 30% of new vehicle sales be electric by 2030. To achieve the EV ecosystem to a considerable level, many efforts are required in EV charging infrastructure. Battery swapping is treated as a promising solution to accelerate the mass adoption of EVs in India. It is swapping model as an alternative to a lack of charging stations and to reduce range anxiety. This review paper discuss the role of batter swapping, its importance, pros and cons in 4-wheeler passenger car segments. It highlights the policy guidelines in India related to battery swapping, comparison of swapping vs. charging and ideal places for battery swapping station and role of EV battery pack. The review summary recommends the need to standardize the battery pack to enhance swapping among a single OEM across various name plates and among all OEMs with a collaborative effort.
