Performance and Emission Characteristics of Botryococcus Braunni Biofuel in a Small Gas Turbine Engine

Abstract
The need for alternative fuels has been rising due to the need for them in countless sectors. That makes it necessary to find out a replacement that is mainly sustainable and renewable. So far, the dominant source of alternative fuels has been from many sources and used in multiple industries. The aviation industry also requires a lot of fuel, that are not producing any harmful gases like fossil fuels. Recently, the production of biodiesel from microalgae and its uses are unpredictably increased for a variety of purposes. The use of microalgae biofuel in the aviation industry has to be improved for combating the fossil fuel impacts on the environment. The suitability of biofuel has to be tested experimentally. The tests were conducted at different engine-rotating rpm for the prepared Botryococcus bruanni biofuel blends. The blends were BCMJA0% (Botryococcus Braunni biofuel 0% + jet A fuel 100%), BCMJA10% (Botryococcus Braunni biofuel 10% + jet A fuel 90%), BCMJA20% (Botryococcus Braunni biofuel 20% + jet A fuel 80%) and BCMJA30% (Botryococcus Braunni biofuel 30% + jet A fuel 70%). The two important characteristics of performance and combustion were found with the use of each test fuel at different engine rotating speeds as 30000 rpm, 50000 rpm and 70000 rpm.
