Abstract

Adjusting the seat in a comfortable and preferred position is an important aspect of driving a car as it affects visibility, distance between pedals and feet, steering wheels and hands. Many times a seat is adjusted while the vehicle is in motion but it causes a seat to move suddenly too much forward or backward due to inertia which causes difficulty for the driver to adjust the seat. While driving, it also distracts the driver. Both of these can cause serious accidents and poses a huge risk to pedestrians and other road users. To reduce this, a constrainer system for seats is suggested and a prototype is developed to constrain the adjustment of seat while the vehicle is in motion. Arduino, hall sensor and actuators are used for developing the locking mechanism. FEA is performed for a component of the locking mechanism for the seat constrainer system. Based on analysis, the prototype is manufactured and tested.
