Abstract

This study aims to utilize Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to develop a regression equation to envisage the wear response of Zn based composites reinforced with in-situ formed ZrB2, examined in the presence of SAE20W40 oil. The study of variance was performed through RSM using Design Expert 13 package, indicating the suitability of a quadratic model. An equation was subsequently derived, with load, distance and composition as input variables and wear as the response parameter. ANOVA assessed the importance and significance of these parameters on wear characteristics, identifying volume % of ZrB2 as the primary contributing factor and load as a significant factor. The regression equation demonstrated effective utility in predicting wear under an assigned set of input variables. Experimental results and statistical analyses from RSM exhibited close values, affirming the validity of the model in predicting the wear characteristics of the composites.
