Development and Analysis of Hybrid Composite Helmets using Glass Fiber and Hair Fiber
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research provides valuable insights into the development of high-performance hybrid composites for applications where material strength, weight and cost are critical considerations. Hybrid composite composed of glass fiber, hair fiber and epoxy resin, is optimized using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array. The experimental design focuses on fiber orientation angle (30°, 45° and 60°), glass fiber weight percentage (5%, 10% and 15%) and hair fiber soaking time (6, 12 and 18 hours). The composite was prepared for glass fiber weight percentage (5%, 10% and 15%) along with hair fiber (5%, 10% and 15%) and epoxy as remaining. The combination of a 45° orientation angle, 10% glass fiber content and an 18-hour hair fiber soaking time resulted in the highest tensile strength of 73.23 MPa and an impact energy of 22.5 kJ/m.
