Shape Variation Effects on Wake Width in Two-Dimensional Bluff Bodies
Main Article Content
Abstract
This numerical investigation examines how altering bluff body shapes impacts wake width within the laminar vortex shedding regime. This study involves elongating the rear section of a bluff body to streamline it and compressing it to increase the bluffness, while keeping the area of attack as constant. The wake width is calculated by measuring the lateral distance between peaks of the RMS fluctuation velocity. Results reveal a widening of wake width has changed the shape factor (SF) from bluff (SF = 0.5) to streamlined (SF=2.0). Further, an inverse correlation between Reynolds number (Re) and wake width is observed, with minimal wake width variations for SF of 0.75 and 1.0.
