Abstract

PEM fuel cell performance is extremely sensitive to design and operation factors. The reactants are successfully dispersed over the flow fields according to the flow channels. In this respect, the fuel cell's performance is extremely sensitive to the design of the flow channels and the flow field. In comparison to alternative designs, the Serpentine flow field performs better. Assessment of PEM fuel cell performance across a wide voltage range is performed in this study by employing a three-pass curved serpentine flow field configuration (0.25 V, 0.35 V, 0.45 V, 0.55 V and 0.65 V). Three passes of a curved serpentine flow field design produce the highest membrane power and current density in a PEM fuel cell at cell voltages of 0.25 and 0.65 V. The 0.25 V cell voltage fuel cell had the best cathode oxygen concentrations and Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) pressure of the five tested cell voltages.
