Abstract

This article presents the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) at different axial locations of the jet, comparing base co-flow and the chevron nozzle. The study was conducted numerically for Mach 0.6 to analyse the acoustic characteristics of both nozzles. Centreline total pressure decay profiles (Dp) and total pressure contour along the jet axis were measured to study the mixing characteristics of the jet and to gain insight into the acoustic characteristics of the jet. The SPL decreases considerably after X/Dp of 8 in the axial direction of the jet. The results give an insight on the reduction of jet noise coming from the chevron nozzle when compared to the base co-flow nozzle.
