Abstract

Modifying the geometry of the injector nozzles utilized in the dual fuel producer gas (PRG) engine shows a certain enhancement in the performance of the engine. A study has been conducted on the effort of combining injector parameters on the performance and emissions by using the dual-fuel namely, PRG+EME (Eucalyptus Oil Methyl Ester) and PRG+Diesel in the CI engine. The PRG is produced from Cajanus cajan stalk. The number of holes and caliber diameter of the injector nozzle are varied respectively as 4, 5, and 6, and 0.2mm, 0.25mm and 0.3mm. The results show that by using PRG+Diesel and 4 hole nozzle with 0.25 mm caliber as well as PRG+EME and 6-hole nozzle with 0.25 mm caliber both have yielded an enhanced Brake Thermal Efficiency (BTE) and lesser emissions. At injection opening pressure of 240 bar, geometry with a 6-hole nozzle and a caliber diameter of 0.25mm gave an enhanced BTE of 5% and 15 to 30% reduction in emissions when PRG+EME dual-fuel is used.
